A dirt hill and a few boulders provide a canvas and the framework for a landscaping work of art.

If these boulders are even a single millimetre off from where they're supposed to be, it can ruin the entire effect!

Js makes a grab for the sandwich; Cg shows the absurdity of the idea. (Although, in all honesty, Js had a bunch of teeth by that time and probably could have done some damage to the sandwich.)

And this is what happens to unsuspecting flautas that wander into an ABACUS meeting. Interestingly, this image exhibits some of the background defocusing that makes an SLR better for portraits than a point-and-shoot camera.

Js and one of his favorite chew toys. This picture is an example of the sort of situation where an SLR excels over a point-and-click. With a point-and-click, even one as great as the Nikon 5700, everything is more-or-less in focus. Including the distracting (and since removed) wall lamp in the background. With an SLR, the focus can be limited to that which you are photographing, the kid, blurring other non-essential and potentially distracting elements in the background.

Here's the front yard, prior to doing the big landscaping. You'll notice my mother's rock garden alongside the stairs. The hand rails were put in after she passed away; she used to sit out on the stairs working on the rock garden for hours. When we redid the front yard, we continued the rock garden theme, both because of my affinity for japanese style and as an allusion to my mother.

Now we have a nice, clean, empty yard. Lots of room to run around, ride bikes, and so on. At least, lots of room for a house in the middle of a major city.

Don't expect to keep your floors nice and shiny if you have kids in the house. Kids love to race around the house (and into each other) on little ride-on toys.
