Introduction My life is, to me, ripe with frequent challenges, occasional successes, spontaneous laughter, adequate tears, and enough *life* to last me a lifetime. To you, however, it surely seems most pedestrian. And therefore, I recycle the name I used previously and call this my Notebooks of Daily Life. Daily, because it's everyday in nature, ordinary. These conglomeration of events that are my life are of interest to me because I live it, perhaps mildly so to those who are touched by it, and could only be of perverse, morbid curiosity to anyone else. Yet, I offer them here nonetheless. Make of them what you will, and perhaps you can learn from my mistakes. Sinasohn.Net

Sunday, November 08, 2009 One of the fallacies thrown about as justification for stripping gays and lesbians of their civil rights is that allowing two men or two women to marry would inevitably lead to things much worse -- polyamory, underage marriage, and bestiality. Of course, this simply isn't true, but let's take a look at these arguments as it they were possible outcomes of marriage equality. First off, I'm not sure why theists would be upset about the idea of polygamy -- it's every bit as biblical as the man-woman model. And the Mormons should love it. Of course, the problem is that these days, those who would support the idea of legalizing multi-partner marriages are not as interested in polygamy as they are in polyamory. What's the difference? In the latter, women are equal partners with men and that, clearly, is not tolerated in the bible. Underage marriage is not, of course, something most people are in favor of -- unless they're Mormons. The Catholic church is more interested in the love 'em and leave 'em model -- at least as far as young boys are concerned. But what does the bible say? Let's consider the number one mom-of-the-year in the Christian beliefs -- Mary, Mother of God. How old was Mary when she married Joseph (after doing the nasty with the big sperm donor in the sky)? It appears that most scholars agree she was in her early teens. So why would Christians be opposed to underage marriage? Mary and Joseph weren't. Lastly, there is bestiality. Again, I don't see why anyone has a problem with this. It happens all the time as it is. Lots of women marry jackasses and plenty of men are married to bitches.
