Uncle Roger's Notebooks of Daily Life
My life is, to me, ripe with frequent challenges, occasional successes, spontaneous laughter, adequate tears, and enough *life* to last me a lifetime. To you, however, it surely seems most pedestrian. And therefore, I recycle the name I used previously and call this my Notebooks of Daily Life. Daily, because it's everyday in nature, ordinary. These conglomeration of events that are my life are of interest to me because I live it, perhaps mildly so to those who are touched by it, and could only be of perverse, morbid curiosity to anyone else. Yet, I offer them here nonetheless. Make of them what you will, and perhaps you can learn from my mistakes.

Recently, CBS News anchor Katie Couric interviewed Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. I didn't see the interview, but came across it on the internet. You can watch the video or read the transcript. What I found most interesting was the pattern of her answers.
For every major topic, her answer was not so much an espousal of her own thoughts and positions but that of her running mate, John McCain. For example:
Regarding Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager, being on the payroll of Freddie Mac: "Again, my understanding is that he recused himself... And I would hope that's the case because, as John McCain has been saying..."
About the $700bn payout, er, bailout (I get those two mixed up also): "I'm all about the position that America is in and that we have to look at a $700 billion bailout. And as Sen. McCain has said..."
Should there be a moratorium on mortgage foreclosures? "That's something that John McCain and I have both been discussing..."
Now I understand that the vice president is second fiddle and must support the president's positions, but in theory -- and very likely, in this case, in practice -- the vice president must be ready and able to take over should the president become incapacitated. Unfortunately, I think I've figured out just who we might end up with for president and vice president: Dumb and Dumber.

Hey there stranger!! You're absolutely right of course and I'm stealing the t-shirt image. I hung on her every vapid word last night and then, because I'm a glutton for punishment, watched much of the following commentary on MSNBC. We can't call that a debate, can we? Or is there a new rule - if you don't like the question, ignore it and go back to talking about nothing. She's a Chatty Kathy and, judging from the commentaries and poll responses, our nation of sheep is finally beginning to awaken. Pretty isn't enough. Hope all of you are well. Give the kids a hug for me and give your sweet wife my very best. Hope to see you at some point. Ann |

She did the same thing during the vice-presidential debates. I guess she feels if she doesn't get her presidential running mate to win, she will be out of a brand new job, and let's face it, her resume could use it! |
