Step by Strep

Unfortunately, all is not entirely well with the whole strep throat thing. After the first successful dose, Jared refused to take it, except with the tiny .8ml dropper from the infant tylenol. On top of that, he threw up last night at dinner.

We had stopped by the pharmacy to pick up the last of his prescription (the third of three bottles) and the pharmacist suggested a syringe instead. He seemed to like that, so we took it home to give it a try. At least it holds 3ml -- a single dose is 12.5ml. Well, this morning, I got about 9ml into him and he clammed up tight. I managed to get the rest into him, but not before he threw up a bit. That makes it a total of six (I think) times the poor kid has thrown up.

Part of the problem is that along with killing the strep bacteria, the antibiotics also kill the beneficial bacteria in the stomach that help with digestion. That makes it difficult to keep anything down. So, he's been feeling tired and run down, and his stomach probably hurts, and he's generally kinda out of it. Add to that that he's missed out on playing in what little snow there was, and this wasn't such a great vacation for him.

Journal Description

My life is, to me, ripe with frequent challenges, occasional successes, spontaneous laughter, adequate tears, and enough *life* to last me a lifetime. To you, however, it surely seems most pedestrian. And therefore, I recycle the name I used previously and call this my Notebooks of Daily Life. Daily, because it's everyday in nature, ordinary. These conglomeration of events that are my life are of interest to me because I live it, perhaps mildly so to those who are touched by it, and could only be of perverse, morbid curiosity to anyone else. Yet, I offer them here nonetheless. Make of them what you will, and perhaps you can learn from my mistakes.
