Uncle Roger's Notebooks of Daily Life

Introduction

My life is, to me, ripe with frequent challenges, occasional successes, spontaneous laughter, adequate tears, and enough *life* to last me a lifetime. To you, however, it surely seems most pedestrian. And therefore, I recycle the name I used previously and call this my Notebooks of Daily Life. Daily, because it's everyday in nature, ordinary. These conglomeration of events that are my life are of interest to me because I live it, perhaps mildly so to those who are touched by it, and could only be of perverse, morbid curiosity to anyone else. Yet, I offer them here nonetheless. Make of them what you will, and perhaps you can learn from my mistakes.

ROI

At last, some return on my investment! Yesterday, I finally got some results from all the hard work and money I've poured into the kids over the last three-and-a-half years.

We did our usual weekend shopping and came home to unload. Jared got out and wanted to help carry in the groceries. He ended up carrying in the bread, instant potatoes (hey, when you have kids and work full time, sometimes you have to sacrifice), apples, and a number of other items.

Later, in the car once again, he was understandably proud. "I was a good helper. Make you so happy and so proud?"

"Very happy and very proud."

Unless I have your kids mixed up, he did all that one-handed. He should be very proud.

The girls used to try for the heaviest sack just to show how strong they are. I'd watch one or the other stagger off with it but I never stopped them unless there was something breakable. Usually it was the 20 lb sack of cat food. They were as happy and proud as I.

Of course instant potatoes. The instant scalloped are decent as well. I don't do it all the time but I always have "boxes" of things around for the more frantic days. Even though I no longer leave home to work, it can still get chaotic easily.

Birthday tonight. We have storebought cupcakes (with sprinkles) and ice cream. The ice cream cake (not Baskin-Robbins) was $20.00 to serve maybe 8. 12 cupcakes and almost a gallon of ice cream was $8.00 and will go much further. B'day girl likes cupcakes much better anyway. We'll stick a couple of candles in each (or she can put one in her ice cream. Diversity is wonderful.

I just rented a moved called "Paper Clips" for the girls. It sounds like something worth seeing. Also have "Better Than Chocolate" from Blockbuster on-line but haven't watched it yet.

Ann, your blog comments are like mini-blogs unto themselves. So you got ROI now.... hopefully when the teenage years arrive, it won`t be payback time!
