Uncle Roger's Notebooks of Daily Life

Introduction

My life is, to me, ripe with frequent challenges, occasional successes, spontaneous laughter, adequate tears, and enough *life* to last me a lifetime. To you, however, it surely seems most pedestrian. And therefore, I recycle the name I used previously and call this my Notebooks of Daily Life. Daily, because it's everyday in nature, ordinary. These conglomeration of events that are my life are of interest to me because I live it, perhaps mildly so to those who are touched by it, and could only be of perverse, morbid curiosity to anyone else. Yet, I offer them here nonetheless. Make of them what you will, and perhaps you can learn from my mistakes.

Party Girl

Last Saturday, right before we left for Calistoga, we had a first birthday party for Sara. We invited thirty-two adults and twelve children. Of those, twenty-three adults and ten children came. Add the four of us to the mix and you get a grand total of thirty-seven people in a two-bedroom house.

It worked out, though. We picked up a couple of folding picnic tables at Costco and set them up in the yard. (Actually, Rachel's folks picked them up for us.) We were worried about the weather -- it was supposed to rain -- but it turned out to be a beautiful day. We barbequed hamburgers, turkey burgers, hot dogs and polish sausages. Rachel's mom had made a couple of lasagnas as well -- one vegetarian and one with meat.

One of the things of which I'm most proud is the diversity of people who came. We had all kinds of people from many different backgrounds; heck, we even had some normal people.

Sara had a grand time as did, I hope, the guests.
