Uncle Roger's Notebooks of Daily Life

Introduction

My life is, to me, ripe with frequent challenges, occasional successes, spontaneous laughter, adequate tears, and enough *life* to last me a lifetime. To you, however, it surely seems most pedestrian. And therefore, I recycle the name I used previously and call this my Notebooks of Daily Life. Daily, because it's everyday in nature, ordinary. These conglomeration of events that are my life are of interest to me because I live it, perhaps mildly so to those who are touched by it, and could only be of perverse, morbid curiosity to anyone else. Yet, I offer them here nonetheless. Make of them what you will, and perhaps you can learn from my mistakes.

Thanks: Craig -- Friendship and Family

Continuing with the December challenge, I would be quite remiss if I failed to mention my best friend Craig.

Craig and I have spent many years together, camping, backpacking, working, and even living together. We've gotten in and out of trouble more times than I can count and he has been extremely tolerant of my irresponsibility and my insanity.

I owe Craig for picking me up in the middle of the night when my Rover broke down and for my nifty new job. Craig has been -- and continues to be -- an inspiration to me to remember to do the things I should do before doing the things I want to do.

Craig and I first met in an explorer post -- sort of an advanced Boy Scouts. While most posts are career-oriented, ours was focused on "outdoor adventure." We began hanging out together outside of the official meetings and trips, and continued our adventures even after outgrowing the post. We found that we were both interested in computers and wound up working together

Craig and I lived together for about eight years and only separated when my mother passed away and I moved back in with my dad. We're once again working together and it's definitely a benefit of the job. While we don't agree on everything, we do agree on the important stuff. There are some things, even, that I don't have to think about because I can just ask Craig what he thinks and that's good enough for me.

Craig got married recently and is planning on starting a family. I am looking forward to when his kids can play with my kids and we can all go camping together and visit Disneyland and all that.

So, for all the good times and genuine friendship, thanks Craig!
