Introduction My life is, to me, ripe with frequent challenges, occasional successes, spontaneous laughter, adequate tears, and enough *life* to last me a lifetime. To you, however, it surely seems most pedestrian. And therefore, I recycle the name I used previously and call this my Notebooks of Daily Life. Daily, because it's everyday in nature, ordinary. These conglomeration of events that are my life are of interest to me because I live it, perhaps mildly so to those who are touched by it, and could only be of perverse, morbid curiosity to anyone else. Yet, I offer them here nonetheless. Make of them what you will, and perhaps you can learn from my mistakes. Sinasohn.Net

Saturday, October 30, 2004 Given the mess that my Visor is in, I've started thinking about a replacement. I quickly checked out the current line-up over at PalmSource, but didn't really see anything that called out to me. Since I doubt I'll ever get a chance to own Sony's latest and greatest (let alone be able to afford it!), I guess I'll just have to make do with something else. So, what should I get? Perhaps someone out there knows of a PDA that will suit me. With that in mind, here's what I need and want. First off, it has to be PalmOS. Aside from the standard distaste for Microsoft products, I have too much invested in PalmOS applications to switch. I also don't like the idea of trying to fit a desktop into a handheld -- it's a handheld and doesn't need all that bloatware. Second, I'd like something updated. A faster processor, more memory, and a newer version of the OS. That's to be expected, however, with any current model except, perhaps, the cheapest, low-end versions. The form factor has to be usable; I can't imagine anything much smaller than my visor's screen being terribly useful as a main handheld. Not that I wouldn't mind replacing my cellphone with a Treo 650... Just not my Visor. Also, I'm not interested in a model with a thumb-keyboard. I have several and they're not as good for everyday PDA use as graffiti. The last requirement is expansion capability, with VFS. I'd like a compact flash slot, but I could live with another form of flash memory. After that, there are some things that I would like. I've love 802.11b connectivity. I would really like to be able to use a full-size, folding keyboard at times, as I do now with my Stowaway. A virtual graffiti area would be nice, as would be a higher resolution screen that's readable outside on a sunny day. Good battery life (and a built-in rechargeable battery) are important too. I don't care about a built-in camera nor am I terribly interested in bluetooth. I also don't need MP3 or video playback. Since I'll have to replace my 3 cradles, various synching cables, car, travel, and usb charging cables, Stowaway keyboard, and so on, the cost (and availability) of these is a factor as well. So, any thoughts or recommendations?
