Uncle Roger's Notebooks of Daily Life

Introduction

My life is, to me, ripe with frequent challenges, occasional successes, spontaneous laughter, adequate tears, and enough *life* to last me a lifetime. To you, however, it surely seems most pedestrian. And therefore, I recycle the name I used previously and call this my Notebooks of Daily Life. Daily, because it's everyday in nature, ordinary. These conglomeration of events that are my life are of interest to me because I live it, perhaps mildly so to those who are touched by it, and could only be of perverse, morbid curiosity to anyone else. Yet, I offer them here nonetheless. Make of them what you will, and perhaps you can learn from my mistakes.

The big weekend

Thanksgiving is just about the most significant holiday as far as I'm concerned. It's message -- recognizing all that one has to be thankful for -- is definitely one I can get behind. I, personally, have an awful lot to be thankful for -- my family and friends, especially. Because of that, I always try to make the most of the holiday to say thanks to those I care about and who have made a positive impact on my life.

The Thanksgiving weekend, therefore, is almost always a very busy, hectic one. This year is no exception.

Enjoying the 'View

I work with images a lot. In a little over two years, I've taken nearly seven thousand (yes, 7000!) digital pictures. There are three programs I use to work with these. The first came with my camera, NikonView. I use that pretty much only to convert from the camera's RAW mode to JPG. The second is Paint Shop Pro, which I use for any serious image editing; it's pretty much the poor man's Photoshop.

The third program is an amazing piece of shareware called IrfanView. First, the executive summary: If you ever work with, look at, or do anything at all with images, download this program now. Go ahead, I'll wait. Okay, now that you've done that, I'll explain why you did that.
